PROJECT INFORMATION of Mai Chau Vietnam Volunteer Adventure

Where?

Mai Chau town seems to be a pearl of Hoa Binh Province. Situated in a magnificent valley 150 km northwest of Hanoi, Mai Chau is home to the Thai minority people who live in remarkable wooden stilt houses. The rolling hills with their beautiful rice terraces are ideal for walking. The verdant and rugged mountain scenery combined with the colourful local population makes this an unforgettable experience.

What?

We are seeking participating schools, university and community service groups to fund and build specific
community development projects within rural villages. All projects undergo a strict needs analysis process and local staff work closely with community leaders to ensure projects are planned, implemented and evaluated successfully. Potential projects that have been identified through community needs analysis process include:

  1. Resident place construction for underprivileged household
    2. Water-well construction
    3. Village water filter improvement
    4. Toilet sanitary construction for regional high school or extremely poor household
    5. Kindergarten & elementary school construction
    6. Village library & resource centre
    7. Livestock improvement scheme
    8. Give local people knowledge of personal and public hygiene
    9. Help the villager to promote sales for handicraft product

During the community work we encourage taking an active role in village life. You also can help local people with farming work like cutting rice in the harvest, watering. Mai Chau people are warm and welcoming with just a smile and a willingness to help out. You can form true bonds with your new friends in just days. By expressing a genuine interest in their culture you will also be giving the most valuable gift you could give, helping them rebuild cultural pride lost in the face of modernization.

In addition to the volunteer work there are opportunities to visit local schools, a community health clinic and learn about the traditional crafts. Your time participating in this program will provide a clear understanding of social, educational and health related issues facing hill tribes in Mai Chau. In this way you will touch and experience this country in a way very few foreigners are able.

Mai Chau hill tribe experience can be customized for each group’s needs and desires. Please contact us to discuss how you can be involved.
